Perform geotechnical engineering activities. Supports observation of field explorations and construction projects, ensuring that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines. Completes detailed, accurate field reports and assists with coordination of field exploration programs. Gathers field data and field samples for related projects. Coordinates samples for testing. Supports the completion of permit applications, habitat/site characterization, field surveys and delineations according to appropriate federal and state guidelines. Completes engineering analyses and/or calculations within assigned discipline. Develops basic conceptual models (i.e. numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, etc.) under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Assists with preparation of deliverables such as memos and reports and provides occasional quality assurance/control support. Ensures that deliverables are submitted to the project manager in a timely manner and are completed as estimated. Completes basic spatial analyses (e.g. contours, clipping, buffering). Develops project-related deliverables related to GIS data such as maps, database organization, etc. under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Assists project team members in making basic design decisions from detailed criteria provided by the senior engineer or project manager. Occasionally assists with project management. Domestic travel to project sites may be required up to 30% of the time.
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 1 year of experience as a Research Assistant, as an Engineer, or in a related geotechnical/civil engineering occupation. Experience must include:

6 months of experience working with MathCAD, ArcGIS, GeoStudio Suite, SupportIT, Plaxis, or other software related to the discipline of geotechnical engineering.

6 months of experience performing and observing/monitoring construction activities in a geotechnical related field.
The following is also required:

Completion of coursework (at either an undergraduate or graduate level) covering the following topics: soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, and earth retaining structures.

Completion of at least 1 academic year of graduate-level (Masters or Doctorate) coursework in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related subject.
All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently. Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees).
