Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary patient screenings, including taking vital signs and documenting medical history
- Assist with front desk duties such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and verifying insurance information
- Prepare patients for examinations by administering eye drops and explaining procedures
- Assist ophthalmologists during procedures by providing instruments and maintaining aseptic technique
- Conduct basic diagnostic tests, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry
- Perform basic ophthalmic procedures, including administering eye medications and applying dressings
- Provide patient education on eye care, contact lens use, and post-operative care
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks
Skills:
- Proficient in medical terminology and anatomy knowledge related to ophthalmology
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems (Epic) for documentation and scheduling purposes
- Ability to perform basic ophthalmic tests and procedures under the supervision of an ophthalmologist
- Knowledge of aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment during procedures
- Experience in a medical office setting, preferably in ophthalmology or optometry
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation and record keeping
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
