Structural Welder
Norfolk, VA
Currently looking for an experienced Structural Welder to fill a temporary opening with a company located in Norfolk, VA. Interested candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working as a Structural Welder and be able to pass NAVSEA certification.
Responsibilities of the Structural Welder
- Receive instructions, prints, and work orders for the job.
- Plan details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
- Fabricate equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals.
- Repair equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment - weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions; FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, et cetera.
- Clean and prepare surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tracks weld parts.
- Build up worn or defective surfaces.
- Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
Requirements of the Structural Welder At least 5 years of experience working as a Structural Welder Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, three-year training program to satisfaction of Plant Training Committee.

- Able to follow blueprints and layout specifications, using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Must be able to pass NAVSEA certification.
- Work involves varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.
- Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing maintenance work.
- May be required to lift and/or carry equipment/objects greater than 50 lbs.
- Typical environment found in the shipyard and ship repair industry.
