An Associate Project Manager (APM) works with Project Managers (PM) to effect successful projects and to positively represent Southcoast Welding & Manufacturing (SCW&M) while developing the skill set necessary to be a Project Manager. The APM reports directly to the Program Manager and the PM assigned by the Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

Attend meetings with the Customer as directed by the PM.

Monitor and report physical progress.

Investigate production conflicts and inefficiencies and offer solutions.

Survey the work sites regularly to gain first-hand knowledge production issues.

Assist organizing and hosting project meetings with SCWM crafts and Department Heads.

Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.

Accomplish other duties assigned by the PM or Program Manager.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and COMPETENCIES

Good written and oral communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate.

Good people skills to work well with Customer and SCWM personnel.

Basic knowledge of ship repair such as trade interdependencies.

Basic knowledge of the planning and scheduling process.

Ability to comprehend technical documentation.

Rudimentary knowledge of government contracting and NAVSEA Standard Items

Working knowledge of Microsoft suite, WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and POWERPOINT

Ship repair trade experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The APM must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job, which includes touring the job site on a regular basis. Projects are frequently related to ship repair work which requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. Must be able to access any place on the jobsite. In addition, the APM must be able to climb vertical ladders and work from scaffolding; tolerate confined spaces; and lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
The APM is not a supervisory position within the department, but the APM must have supervisory-like skills to the extent needed to coordinate crafts and subcontractors to support the project schedule. The APM is responsible for reporting any project concerns to the PM.
POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time salary (exempt) position. The salary is based on a 40-hour work week. SCWM’s basic work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but this is subject to change depending on the needs of the project. Overtime and weekend work will be required based on the needs of the project.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and CREDENTIALS

High School graduate or equivalent.

Able to secure a DBIDs card.

Able to fluently read, speak, and comprehend English.

Three plus (3+) years of experience in the ship repair industry. Experience in other heavy industries may be considered.

Able to travel for up to 25% of the time per year.

Certificate(s) in ship repair craft.

Fluent in a second language, especially Spanish.

2 years of shipboard work experience.
