St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati (SVDP) has served residents of greater Cincinnati for over 150 years with basic needs such as food, medicine, and homelessness prevention through its outreach center in the West End and through fifty-six parish-based volunteer Conferences (chapters). Job Summary: The Re-Entry Program Coordinator provides assistance to those whose lives have been impacted by the criminal justice system, including the formally incarcerated and their families. This position will work to help neighbors attain stability, advance in the workforce, and positively contribute in our community. The Re-Entry Program Coordinator will act as a resource to SVDP staff and community volunteers, educating them on sources of assistance and challenges facing the Re-Entry population.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Basic Needs Assistance
- Administer basic needs assistance to help Returning Citizens and their families/households with transportation, ID’s, rent/utilities, and other fundamental needs
- Coordinate access to other forms of assistance including food, clothing, household goods, and furnituNurture strategic complementary partner relationships. Coordinate the work of SVDP and other related community services providers in a way that advances overall stabilization and advancement efforts. Refer Returning Citizens to other community organizations and accept referrals as appropriate
- Document all assistance and referrals within our case management system
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork to extend services to neighbors
Pathways to Self-Sufficiency
- Serve as a resource for Returning Citizens, connecting them with the appropriate community resources and setting collaborative goals to help neighbors plan their next steps forward
- Identify neighbors who would benefit from mentorship and/or job training and provide referrals to both internal and external programs
- Connect with employers within the community and link Returning Citizens to available employment opportunities.
Support SVDP Staff and Volunteers
- Raise awareness of the needs of Returning Citizens living within the SVDP service network (Hamilton County). Share information, resources, and expertise necessary for our parish-based Conferences and our Outreach Center to effectively recognize and meet these needs
- Link Vincentians (parish-based Volunteers) with opportunities to affect systemic change in support of Returning Citizens by promoting positive advocacy and recruiting mentors. Encourage the leadership and participation of Returning Citizens in this effort
- Participate in events hosted by the Ozanam Center for Service Learning to educate participants about issues related to the criminal justice system and Re-Entry.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; post-secondary education in social work, human services, criminal justice, or related fields preferred
- Life experiences that likely would sensitize the candidate to issues faced by Returning Citizens
- A strong desire to serve the Re-Entry population
- At least one year of experience working at a social services agency
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
- Ability to effectively relate to people of different cultural and economic backgrounds
Physical Requirements:
- Job duties will primarily be performed from a desk; however there may be some walking, standing, or bending
- Ability to carry lift and carry up to 35 lbs
