SUMMARY:
The Quality Engineer will plan and conduct activities concerned with the quality assurance and quality control of industrial processes, materials, and products. The position will help to reduce business risk associated with Food Safety, HACCP, and product quality issues as the primary driving force in defects analysis, failure analysis, continual process improvement, and customer service.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Champion and lead quality projects including new product development and continuous improvement projects, to achieve successful completion and implementation.
- Responsible for addressing internal and external customer concerns as a primary contact, conduct root cause analysis/corrective action with documentation, audit, and follow-up.
- Responsible for addressing customer documentation requests regarding questionnaires, regulatory, shipping, and compliance reports.
- Participate in Internal, Certification, and Customer Audit processes to any food safety and compliance programs the company engages in.
- Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
- Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to ensure the quality of the assigned product or component (for both new product development and existing products).
- Devise sampling procedures and quality control plans.
- Design and develop documentation and procedures for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
- Establish programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment.
- Evaluate testing measurement for analysis of equipment and facilities.
- Perform quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) and Trend Analysis methods for analyzing data to evaluate current process and implement changes when deemed applicable.
- Document data obtained during all quality activities consistent with company policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports to communicate involvement and results of internal and external customer activities.
- Prepare and present technical and program information to team members, management, and external customers.
- Perform inventory audits to ensure compliance for safe storage of Airlite products.
- Maintain a working knowledge of cGMPs, GFSI, ISO, government and industry quality codes and standards.
- Provide backup as a substitute SQF Practitioner.
- Review all purchased products and components; provides input on the decision to accept the production and future purchase from vendors.
- Train and serve as a subject matter expert for the assigned team(s).
- Responsible for reporting food safety problems to management.
- As needed, may be required to travel to customer sites, less than 5% of the time.
- Maintain company attendance standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of five (5) years of Quality/Engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be or willing to become QMS/HACCP and ISO internal auditor certified
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Experience working in an FDA/Food Packaging or Food regulated industry preferred
- Capability to solve complex problems, utilizing critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to apply industrial manufacturing logic to processes.
- Ability to read, interpret, apply, and respond to regulatory requirements.
- Ability to collect and interpret technical data and translate into diagrams/forms.
- Knowledgeable in Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis, PPAP, FMEA, APQP, RCCA, and problem-solving methodology.
- Superior organizational skills and the ability to assemble resources needed to orchestrate projects/activities and accomplish goals.
