Working under the direction of the Helpline Director and Helpline Logistics Staff, the NMHealth Helpline Nurse is responsible for providing telehealth guidance to the public to assist callers in locating resources to address a variety of concerns including but not limited to: vaccine scheduling, reproductive health care, harm reduction, guidance to sick persons or persons exposed to a communicable illness, persons reporting complaints about healthcare facilities and restaurants, persons experiencing drug or alcohol addiction, persons in acute mental health crisis, and persons needing referrals to other NMHealth programs or other State of New Mexico Departments.
Candidates are required to currently possess an active, unrestricted RN license from New Mexico or any other nursing compact state, must be able to work approximately 30-40 hours a week, and must have a computer with access to consistently reliable and fast internet to connect to the web-based phone system. Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Excel or Smartsheet, experience with charting systems and knowledge of proper telehealth charting principles, and willingness to accept additional projects as directed by the Helpline Director or Logistics Staff. Two years of previous clinical experience are required.
Candidates must be comfortable speaking and professionally interacting with a variety of disciplines including but not limited to Physicians and other providers, Pharmacists, nurses, veterinarians, epidemiologists, fire and EMS agencies, law enforcement, and laboratory staff; as well as members of the public, including those who may be in crisis or otherwise experiencing emotional distress.
The ideal candidate will have availability to work daytime shifts (M-F 8-5 MST) as well as the occasional weekend shift; will read, speak, and understand Spanish; will have experience using a group messaging platform such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or EPIC, and will have experience with remote nursing or telehealth.
Candidates will serve as contractors working for NMHealth state health department and will be employed through Rapid Temps, a medical staffing agency.
