PROCESSING ARCHIVIST – New York City
The Winthrop Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Processing Archivist to process the papers of former Directors, Deans, Chairmen, and Presidents of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. This salaried, 16-month position will require that the archivist work on-site at the client’s premises in Manhattan. An experienced Senior Archivist will provide support and supervision. It may be possible to transfer to other Winthrop clients or projects following the completion of this processing initiative.
Key Responsibilities
Survey and develop processing plans for 16 collections
Arrange and describe archival materials in accord with professional best practices and institution’s processing guidelines and procedures
Create DACS-compliant finding aids
Identify sensitive or confidential records and apply restrictions according to HIPAA, FERPA, and established policies
Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of work
Identify and flag records that meet criteria for digitization
Flag duplicative material and other documentation that may be eligible for disposition
Note items that may require specialized housing or conservation treatment
Work collaboratively with staff of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Arthur H. Aufses, Jr., MD Archives and Winthrop colleagues
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent accredited degree with formal training in archival theory and practice
Minimum of 2-3 years of full-time work in an archives including significant processing experience
Experience applying archival standards (DACS) and best practices
Strong attention to detail and experience working with sensitive information and identifying PII and PHI
Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival and manuscript collections
Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Access to Memory (or other Collections Management Systems)
Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills
Ability to manage time effectively, problem solve, and balance multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently
Experience interacting with a variety of stakeholders within a complex organization
Unwavering commitment to privacy and confidentiality
Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
Experience processing collections of professional or personal papers
Experience working with medical information or organizational records
Project management experience
Compensation
Salary range: $58,000 - $62,000 with strong benefits package. All full-time Winthrop employees receive paid time off and annual funds for professional development.
