Position Summary
The Prep Cook position reports to the Executive Chef and is responsible for performing basic and extensive food preparation with others or individually.
Responsibilities
- Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties.
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all house policies and standards. .
- Perform proper changeover, opening, and closing duties.
- Follow all prep recipes and procedures and successfully perform these duties as assigned and/or reassigned by leadership.
- Participate in seamless operation between BOH + FOH staff members ensuring proper service to our guests.
- Perform to high standards of excellence, execution, and cleanliness.
- Always keep your active SNHD Food Handler's card with you while on property.
- Execute proper health and safety protocols while operating equipment, handling food, storing food, maintaining temperature & time control logs, and sanitizing as dictated by the SNHD.
- Report health and safety incidents and concerns directly to leadership in an accurate and timely manner.
- Contribute to successful SNHD health inspections.
- Actively participate in all scheduled required training sessions.
Requirements
- Current, legal, and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active Food Handlers card.
- Previous experience as a prep cook or equivalent
- At least two years of experience at a high-volume establishment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently through the Kitchen.
- Will work in hot and cold, confined, or cramped spaces.
- The work environment is noisy, must constantly receive and communicate information.
- Ability to bend, stoop, balance, and reach-ins necessary.
- The job requires lifting/carrying the max weight of 50lbs.
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
