POSITION SUMMARY:

We are accepting resumes for a part-time K-5 ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will have ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian culture teaching experience. The teacher will work directly with Elementary students, teaching them about Hawaiian language and culture.
Reporting to the Elementary Principal, the ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi teacher will work directly with Elementary students teaching them Hawaiian language and culture.
The ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi teacher will be a resource for colleagues, helping them to integrate culturally relevant content, practices, and language into their units of study and learning trips.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the curriculum coordinator and classroom teachers to develop and enhance the curriculum, emphasizing place-based learning.
- Work with the Principal and Curriculum Coordinator to support the implementation of authentic Hawaiian language and cultural learning experiences.
- Support the vision and furthering of the ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi program at IPA
- Work with the Secondary ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi teacher to support the alignment of the ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi program K-12.
- Provide the instruction of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi for K-5 students
- Work as part of a collaborative team to plan and coordinate the May Day performance for all students K-12.
- Support school events as appropriate.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian Culture.
- Proficiency in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi.
- Experience providing differentiated instruction based on student needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Willingness to be an active and participating member of an innovative and caring group of professional educators.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Proficiency in Hawaiian music and/or Hawaiian instruments.
- Proficiency in hula and/or ability to teach hula to students as part of the curriculum and May Day program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work environment includes standing, sitting, and moving around regularly in both an indoor air-conditioned and outdoor, hot and humid environment.
- Regular lifting of up to 15lbs and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- The noise level of the position can occasionally be moderate or high during school events .
SALARY REQUIREMENTS:
- $25,000 to $45,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
