As a trusted behavioral health organization committed to providing care in the community since 1955, we offer an array of comprehensive services for youth, adolescents, and adults. Our therapists provide crisis intervention services for individuals (age 5+) who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
Job Scope: Provide level of care assessments, brief psychotherapy, triage, resource development, and disposition recommendations for behavioral health patients of the Emergency Department. Refer and place behavioral health patients to inpatient psychiatric treatment when appropriate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide emergency assessments and crisis intervention to adults and children at the hospital emergency department in Elgin.
- Arrange psychiatric hospitalization and referrals as necessary.
- Facilitates and carries out the pre-admission screening function for state paid hospitalizations.
- Demonstrates independent decision skills based on qualified clinical judgment for the provision of services.
- Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of referral sources and procedures for linkage.
- Interfaces with other agencies and hospitals with diplomacy.
- Completes administrative forms and maintains accurate and current data.
- Handles inquiries related to mental health services in a timely manner, determining level of service needed and providing referrals for services.
Performance Requirements
- Engage clients and provide crisis counseling in single session therapy.
- Assess for emergency hospitalization and/or respite care.
- Participate in shift change, to ensure a smooth and thorough transfer of client care.
- Attend monthly Psychiatric Emergency Program meetings with supervisor.
- Manage and appropriately refer substance abusing clients in crisis.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Human Service field
- Current LPC, LSW, or AMFT license required, or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
- Crisis work experience preferred
- Must have valid Illinois diver’s license, auto insurance, and automobile.
- Must be up to date on flu vaccine.
Schedule
- Sunday 7:00pm – 7:30am. 11.5 hours a week.
- There are opportunities to pick up additional coverage hours.
