The GI Procedure/Surgery Scheduler schedules patients for inpatient and outpatient procedures. The individual works in a team environment with a group of schedulers assigned by specific providers. The individual must work well in a team environment as well as independently and provide the utmost of customer service both internally and externally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates surgery/procedure time between patient, hospital/outpatient surgery center, anesthesia physician group
- Maintains calendar of surgery /procedure times; follows up with physician to resolve conflicts of schedule in a timely manner
- Coordinates authorizations with Prior Authorization Department
- Assists with procedure instructions and patient inquiries Works proactively to ensure that all arrangements have been made to ensure a timely and orderly environment for each surgical procedure
- Follows up with all parties involved to communicate changes in schedule or place of surgery; works proactively to ensure that all changes are handled in an orderly fashion
- Collects co-payments for procedures
- Must ensure accuracy of schedules for physicians, surgery centers, hospitals, and anesthesia, to include accurate demographics, arrival time vs. start time, prior authorizations completed, and patient awareness of co-pays and payments accepted
- Takes voice mail off phones; answers and triage's calls, directing to appropriate individuals or departments
- Manages MD requests
- Ability to train co-workers
- Monitors work flow; reviews morning and afternoon tasks; assists in work assignments
- Reports performance issues to supervisors; recommends areas for improvement
- Interface/liaison with other departments

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years experience in surgery/procedure scheduling.
