JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluate the effectiveness of dialysis treatment and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.

Works with internal and external resources to maintain machine maintenance and partnership with patients' home dialysis unit.

Performs surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water (chlorine, pH, water cultures) to ensure that the machines are operating within the parameters set within manufacturer guidelines.

Demonstrates working knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests and dialysis medications.

Demonstrates clinical competence and knowledge in cannulation of dialysis accesses and proper care and use of CVC for dialysis.

Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of infection control and prevention of blood-borne pathogens.

Performs cannulations, initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments.

Completes head-to-toe nursing assessment of dialysis patients and documents in EMR.

Medicates patient as necessary with pain medication, IV antibiotics, etc. and documents in EMR following specific procedures for medication administration per hospital policy.

Provides patient education and teaching applicable to patient's medical condition.

Works in constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must be a Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

6 - 12 months of dialysis experience required (acute-care setting preferred).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

BLS required.

ACLS preferred.

Must have an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois and in good standing.
ON-CALL REQUIRED
**Shifts will vary (mostly Days 7:00am to 7:00pm) 36 hours weekly with rotating Saturdays.
