Alamo Drafthouse is seeking an analytical, detail-oriented, and responsive team member to help us coordinate and manage our film booking process.
As a Film Buyer, you will be responsible for negotiating which films will be played in which theaters. Alamo Drafthouse's innovative approach to programming requires film buyers who understand the unique personality of each of our theaters as well as the overall brand. We also have the added challenge of lower screen counts than many other theaters creating a critical need for strategic placement of the right content on the right screens. Additionally, our flagship locations often have the great privilege and responsibility of launching new films via ‘platform’ releases. Our responsibility in these cases is to partner with distribution and work with the larger Alamo system to ensure top national grosses with the highest possible per-theater average, ensuring the success of the film and setting the stage for future expansion.
Perhaps most importantly, you will nurture a strong, productive, and mutually beneficial relationship with our studio and distribution partners. You will need to balance skills of negotiation and skills of relationship-building to ensure that Alamo gets the films and terms that are the best for our business while our studio partners feel they are being supported to the fullest. The ideal candidate drives a hard bargain but does so in a way that treats all parties with respect.

CORE ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Maximize the profitability of our screens by procuring films for each location that will connect with the audience and generate high grosses
Allocate screens and location support of different titles based on brand goals
Become an expert in the Alamo Drafthouse audience, how it varies by location, and how each audience segment responds to different types of films
Analyze sales results to optimize the films, houses, and schedules on a weekly basis
Collaborate with the programming and marketing teams to determine the right level of marketing and promotion for each film as well as the right balance of first run and alternative content.
Coordinate with the scheduling team and theater managers - ensure film schedules are optimized to drive the most revenue while meeting studio requirements and brand goals.
Develop and nurture relationships with our studio partners and ensure they are aligned with our programming and promotional strategies
Manage the weekly buying and booking processes, including updating internal systems, facilitating chart calls, creating theater-level forecasts for each film, monitoring and adjusting schedules based on pre-sales, and booking films with distributors
Continuously improve the systems and processes used by the buying team
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2 years of experience in the cinema industry
Ability to accurately forecast ticket sales for films based on personal assessment of the film, past performance of comparable titles, marketing spend, critical reviews, and a deep understanding of our customers
A strategic thinker, able to create winning strategies based on Alamo’s unique value proposition, audience, capabilities, and constraints; able to identify trends and anticipate shifts in the industry
Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational capabilities and the ability to multitask under occasionally absurd deadlines
A collaborative team player and great communicator who builds trust across the organization and works together with others to solve problems
Experience in distribution or other aspects of the industry is a major plus
