Job Announcement - EARLY CHILDHOOD HEAD TEACHER
The Associated Students of SF State is seeking a highly qualified Head Teacher to join our Teaching team at the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). The ECEC serves children from 4 months – 5 years old.
Organization and Program Profile:
AS is the student government at SF State and serves as the official voice of students. AS promotes an enriched co-curricular student life experience and is dedicated to the empowerment of SF State’s diverse student body through a commitment to social justice and shared governance. AS provides and supports services and programs, maintains fiduciary responsibility, and engages in campus-wide collaborations and external advocacy efforts.
The ECEC’s primary goal is to assist student parents attain their educational goals by providing appropriate care for their young children in a high-quality, convenient, and affordable educational setting. Our educational philosophy draws upon a variety of educational approaches to support each child’s optimum growth and development as well as make children’s learning visible. As a campus-based child care program, we also provide opportunities for student employment and Early Childhood teacher training.
Position Description:
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Head Teacher plans and implements activities which are designed to develop a range of social, cognitive, and motor skills for individuals and groups of children, within the classroom and outdoor play areas of the Early Childhood Education Center. Establishes and maintains a strong, two-way relationship with parents of children enrolled in their classroom. Observes and assesses individual and group learning experiences to ensure best practice and an anti-bias curriculum. Supervises and trains student employees, interns, and classroom volunteers.
Center Hours of operation are 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as duties demand.
Minimum Qualifications:

BA degree in Child Development or related field

Three (3) postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units related to the care of infants

CA Child Development Permit at the Site Supervisor Level

Two (2) years of lead teacher experience in a Center based program.
Knowledge of:
-
Principles and theories of child growth and development.

Reggio-inspired philosophy and its relationship to environments and learning.

WestEd’s Program for Infant and Toddler Care (PITC) principles and practice (if applicable to age group)
-
California’s Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Work Sampling and/or Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) assessment tools (appropriate to age group).

The Infant/Toddler or Preschool Learning and Development Foundations, published by the California Department of Education (CDE).

NAEYC best practices and accreditation standards.
-
California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing, Title 5 & 22.

National Health and Safety Performance Standards Guidelines for Childcare Programs.
Salary/Benefits
Salary: $70,317-$74,874/annually (Salary Non-Exempt 11-month position).
This position is partially funded by the SF DEC Early Education Salary Support Grant.
