POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Atlanta Site Director, ChooseU is seeking a Student Success Manager responsible for assisting ChooseU participants with maximizing their potential by supporting and assisting students in gaining effective strategies and behaviors that can support their personal goals and professional career.
In addition to supporting recruitment and student selection, you will be responsible for ensuring they are well equipped for entry level employment and able to overcome personal barriers to placement and retention. The Student Success Manager will play a vital role in building relationships with community partners for additional social support and identifying resources that will enable learners to be successful on the job.
This is a temporary position (not to exceed November 22, 2024) with the expectation of in-person work 2-3 days a week. Applicants must be located in or near the Metro Atlanta area.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Recruitment (10%)
● Available during recruitment to speak at group interview / information sessions and to answer questions as needed
● Conduct one-on-one interviews and ensure pre-work is completed (with Site Director)
● Attend recruitment events and promote within the community and to community partners.
Academic and Career Counseling (60%)
● Build relationships with students during intake process (i.e., pre-work), during the training program and following graduation especially in first 3 months on the job
● Conduct 1-on-1 meetings with participants on a weekly basis during their time in program
● Work with students to prepare for job interviews and ensure fulfillment of commitment to conduct at least 3 interviews with employers
● Conduct resume reviews and arrange mock interview sessions for participants
● Work to solve any social support challenges for students, including working with local community organizations to develop solutions (e.g., childcare providers, domestic abuse counselors)
● Work with program instructor and local program team to identify and address any issues that could prevent participants from completing the program (Target ~80-85 percent graduation rate)
● Guide student in making informed career decisions
Data Management (15%)
● Track interactions and update student tracker
● Utilize student tracker to gauge what students are at risk and what interactions can be deployed
● Collect key data points that will assist us in identifying at-risk factors and directing needed resource interventions such as weekly assessment of mindsets and performance
● Support Site Director in following up with students and supervisors who didn’t fill out monthly surveys
Placement and Retention Support (15%)
● Connect alumni with access to resume reviews, employer information sessions, mock interviews, and application review for 180 days after graduation.
● Have regular coaching conversations with alumni to support them with securing employment and to collect placement data.
● Work directly with all students who have not yet secured employment to ensure they get a job
● Identify students at risk of leaving employment and work to improve retention (~80-90%)
● Send weekly note to all employed participants checking in on work experience
ABOUT YOU
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are a strong problem solver and have good decision making skills. You are a multi-tasker, scheduler, and have impeccable time management skills. You have strong computer skills, knowledge on designing spreadsheets, and maintaining databases. You are an active listener, and you have excellent management and motivational skills. You have knowledge of human resources and recruiting techniques. You have the ability to inspire and empower others. You are an initiator and can work well independently or on a team. You have a passion for working in the community and making an impact. You know how to work with other organizations to get additional resources and support.
Specific requirements include, but are not limited to:
● 3-5 years experience working in a role coaching, mentoring or advising students
● Knowledge of community organizations that provide social services support and willingness to source new organizations
● Experienced and passionate about working with underrepresented and underserved populations
● Must be comfortable with public speaking and be able to communicate ideas, advice, feedback in individual and group settings
● Ability to recognize opportunities and develop plans to aid in personal and career growth ●Ability to motivate and encourage others
● Self-reflective and open to frequent feedback from participants and program team
●Positive, solutions-oriented attitude, drive for excellence, and ability to be a team player ●Ability to travel to and around the Metro Atlanta area and meet with students staff as needed
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION
This is a temporary, hybrid position paid at an hourly rate of $30.00 - $35.00 depending on experience and coincides with renewable grant funding. Please note that as a contractor, you will not be eligible for participation in the group's benefits plans.
