Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) is key in assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures by obtaining and documenting accurate and concise patient history and current chief complaint. They perform patient services as requested which may include but is not limited to obtaining EKG’s & ABI's, as well as perform patient vital signs and other care as needed. Medical assistants are to make all patients feel comfortable by treating them in a courteous, kind, friendly and in a professional manner
Primary responsibilities:
- Politely greets, identifies oneself and escorts patient(s) into exam room
- Interviews patients and documents past and present medical history, social history, family and medication history, measures and records a minimal of three vital signs-all by following evaluation and management guidelines
- Records and signs all pertinent information in the patient's electronic chart
- Educates patients regarding medication and treatment instructions
- Answer all patient questions
- Check patient in, confirm insurance, collect copay and schedule follow up visits
- Maintain patient confidentiality 100% of the time; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information - adherence to all HIPAA guidelines
Qualifications
- English/ Spanish (Preferred)
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Knowledge of professional medical assisting theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
- Skilled in the techniques of professional medical assisting to provide patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer care.
- Perception necessary to observe pertinent detail when reading thermometers, blood pressure devices, other equipment gauges and to observe patient's condition.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions.

Pay to commensurate with experience
Experience:
- medical assistant: 1 year- Preferred but will train
- EMR systems: 1 year -Preferred but will train
- medical terminology: 1 year (Required)
- Strong positive interpersonal skills; can effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- High degree of initiative and sense of organization.
