Job Title: Instructor of Early Childhood Music
Description: Patterson Park Academy of Music (PPAM) is an after-school music academy in East Baltimore. Founded in January 2021, PPAM currently offers private music instruction for children and adults in piano, guitar, violin, cello, and drums, as well as early childhood music classes and children and adult chorus programs. We are seeking experienced and adaptable educators to who are familiar with or willing to undergo training to teach early childhood general music classes for the caregiver+child modality. Ideal candidates will be high energy, personable, musically literate, and exceptional with infants and toddlers in a classroom setting.
Compensation: Starting at $65/hour, negotiable based on experience.
Duties:
- Teach weekly, in-person music classes for distinct age groups (0-12 months, 12-36 months, 3-5 years) geared towards caregiver+child
- Maintain a high-energy, fun, and fast-paced classroom atmosphere
Position Type: Part-time—ideal candidates will be available on two weekday late afternoon/evenings (4-7p) or weekend mornings (9a-12p). Sessions are approximately 10-weeks long during the Fall and Spring, with optional summer employment. Instructors will be W-2 employees and required to provide W-2 and I-9 forms.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in Music or extensive professional musical experience; Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance or Education preferred
- At least 2 years of professional teaching experience
- Firm commitment to a weekly class schedule on instructor’s preferred teaching day(s) on a semester schedule
- Ability to sing with accurate pitch while playing an instrument (piano, guitar, or ukulele)

Interview Process:
- Chosen candidates will have a virtual interview (Zoom, Skype, Facetime) with the directors
Other details:
- The chosen candidate should be available for up to 10 paid training hours in PPAM Early Childhood methods prior to beginning a teaching contract. Training hours will be scheduled either on Mondays 5-7p, or Thursdays 9a-11a.
- Successful candidates must consent to a background check prior to hiring.
