General Responsibilities:
The Assistant Teacher is in charge of assisting the lead teacher with classroom supervision, developing and implementing lesson plans, leading classroom activities, and communicating with parents in a special education classroom setting. The ideal candidate will excel in working with a team, behavior/classroom management, and adapting elementary curriculum for individuals with unique learning needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
included but not limited to:
- Assist the lead teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional, behavioral, and social objectives
- Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned by the lead teacher
- Assist with the organizing and planning of Shabbat shows, publishing parties, and other related events
- Assist with behavior management and modification, as assigned by the lead teacher
- Escort students on campus, as assigned by the lead teacher or administrator
- Monitor students during assigned periods within various school environments or during school-wide activities
- Aid the lead teacher in developing an academic plan for each student; specific to each student’s learning, social and behavioral needs
- Implement behavior/classroom management techniques as instructed by the lead teacher
- Communicate frequently with administration and parents with regards to student progress as instructed by the lead teacher
- Report student concerns directly and immediately to lead teacher and administrator
- Perform related work, as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of special education practices, methods, and techniques for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); ability to collaborate with various educational professionals to address the individual learning, social, and behavioral needs of students with ASD; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with students with ASD preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Physical Requirements: Active walking, moving, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.

This position is a full-time position. Most of the hours required to work are from 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Thru Friday, based on a school calendar year. This position requires flexibility to stay late and arrive early or work weekends during for special events.
