Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Pianist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for music and the ability to play the piano proficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Musically lead all worship services in person, including both hymnody and liturgical accompaniment, in accordance with the demands of the congregation.
- Attend, and be an active participant, in all meetings of the Worship Planning Committee, as well as to attend other meetings as requested.
- Be consistently prepared for each worship service by demonstrating a familiarity with the hymnody, service music, and/or any other music utilized in the worship service.
- Accompany other vocalists and instrumentalists as scheduled by the Pastor and/or the Worship Planning Committee.
- Demonstrate a versatility, variety, proficiency, and liturgical sensitivity to all styles of worship utilized by the congregation.
- Join with the Worship Planning Committee to select hymns and liturgy reflective of the liturgical seasons and designated scripture texts. Help plan other special worship services as needed.
- Church will provide a musician for vacations. A minimum of 24 hours’ advance notice of an absence is required for unexpected time off. A minimum of 2 weeks advance notice is required for vacation time off. The Musician will be expected to maintain a minimum of 85% attendance record each year for all above responsibilities.
- Rehearse regularly to maintain and improve musical skills
Requirements:
- Ability to read sheet music and have strong sight-reading skills.
- Must be able to play Clavinova and/or piano.
- Must demonstrate a willingness and sensitivity to all members, and/or fellow staff members regarding their musical gifts, and must be open and eager to embrace alternative points of view.
- Must have knowledge of Lutheran worship tradition and theological understanding sufficient to appropriately select music and texts for traditional and contemporary worship.
- Must be willing to work as a “team player” in a church setting working with staff, musicians, and volunteers.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others.
