Special Education Teacher (Full Time)
Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher will provide classroom instruction tailored to the specific need of each student within the assigned classroom(s). The Special Education Teacher will work in a multi-disciplinary setting to encourage development across numerous domains. The teacher will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide oversight and implementation of the students Educational Support Plan similar to an IEP in a public setting. For older students this may include transitional planning. The teacher will work cooperatively with students, clients, families, therapists, and administrators to support the development of those in our care, in keeping with our mission. We have one opening in early childhood and one opening for a secondary classroom.
This specific opening is to work with middle and high school age students in our Bridge program, supporting high functioning students that are moderate plus in their needs with assistance of a partner teacher and four assistants to support approximately 18 students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field)
- Special Education Certification
- Experience preferred

Special Education Teacher Role Definition
- Works with interdisciplinary team to support students through the services provided by TDSS.
- Works with admissions and therapy services to create ESP plans for incoming students with an IEP or Psychoed evaluation.
- Conducts ESP meetings to update ESPs in consultation with students, therapists, parents, teachers, counselors, and administration
- Creates lesson plans and instructs assigned courses
- Creates opportunities to strengthen the school culture of DSA by having open communication with the students and parents.
- Deal with conflict in a Christ-like manner
- Supports the efforts and direction of the administration in a spirit of Christian service. (1 Corinthians 12:28-29)
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Keeps the administration advised of all important information, discipline matters, and departures from usual routines.
Essential Work Requirements:
- Bending and stooping, climbing, kneeling, lifting/carrying patients 35 pounds or greater, reaching, repetitive movements, running, sitting, squatting, standing, walking, biological waste, blood and bodily fluid handling, latex, slippery surfaces, and keyboard entry

- 5 PTO days (Blockout dates: August 7,8. Unused time may be reimbursed at the end of this contract at a rate of $100 per day. 3 days may be used during the first half of the contractual term. The remaining balance is available in the second half of the contractual term.
