The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation. We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.
About the Mission Investment Fund
The Mission Investment Fund (MIF), a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, supports the establishment and growth of ELCA congregations, synods, and affiliated ministries by providing loans for capital projects for congregations and ministries. To fund these loans, MIF offers a variety of investments to ELCA members, congregations, and ministries.
The ELCA Federal Credit Union (FCU), a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, offers financial products and services to ELCA members, pastors, congregations, synods, affiliated ministries, and their employees. The portfolio of products includes low-cost loans, deposit accounts, credit cards, and other financial products, services, and solutions within a not-for-profit, cooperative structure.

About the Position
The position of Account Processor (Banking/Teller) is responsible for account correspondence/ maintenance, account renewals, deposit processing, and loan payments. Provide excellent customer service to all ministries of the ELCA and our member investors.
This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt (hourly), Chicago-based hybrid position. This position has responsibilities that will require being in the office on a weekly basis. This could mean 2-3 days most weeks and possibly more days when meetings and other events are happening that this position supports.
Candidates for this position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
Responsibilities

Receive and process deposits, payments, withdrawals, transfers, stop payments, address changes, authorized signers, and service events.

Provide effective customer service by assisting new and existing customers’ inquiries via telephone; email or correspondence with answering questions, requests, forms, problems, and providing research when necessary. Ensure proper follow-up on correspondence, and service events.

Enroll and maintain customer electronic banking functions with regards to all MIF systems.

Assist with answering incoming calls as back-up for call center.

Process all draw requests while assisting customers with expenditures to ensure project remains within approved budget.

Process all loan/deposit payments to MIF customer accounts to ensure proper posting.

Send notices for expired insurance policies and update system. Send late notices and delinquent letters.

Set up allotments to and from customer bank accounts for monthly payments and deposits.

Send Loan/deposit packages to potential new customers.

Scan all necessary information and documents as outlined in the loan department procedures of scanned information.

Identify opportunities for other MIF products/services and refer to proper center of expertise.

Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of bank teller or credit union and customer service experience required, as well as loan disbursement through the lending experience.

Good mathematical and analytical skills.

Excellent verbal, writing, organizational, and communication skills.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Proficient using a computer and advanced knowledge of programs in Microsoft Suite.

Excellent listening skills and the ability to ask probing questions, understand concerns, and overcome objections.

Must be able to adapt quickly to changes and accept them in a supportive and professional manner.

Proper telephone etiquette.

Strong work ethic and self-starter, able to effectively multi-task and work in a high volume, fast paced environment.
Required or preferred education, certifications, or licenses:
Bachelor’s degree preferred or a combination of experience and education
Physical Effort: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Employee will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds.
