Founded in 2005, Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS) offers a high-quality public education in grades PreK-8th. HCCS academic program is managed by SABIS Educational System. The school mission is to promote the joy of learning and to prepare children for success as students, citizens, and workers by providing them with a high-quality public education. After implementing a comprehensive strategic and academic plan, HCCS teachers are committed to meeting the needs of diverse learners through various methods of content delivery and performance assessment. In addition, HCCS recently finished building a new 22,000 sq. ft. wing, which includes four new classrooms and a new 16,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. HCCS sets a high standard for excellence.
Who We Are Looking For:
The Reading Support Staff will lead HCCS SABIS efforts to support K – 4 teachers in the school, helping them to reach the HCCS SABIS literacy goals for students. The Content Support Staff will work on implementing SABIS and Appleseeds curricula. The ELA/Literacy Content Support Staff will create appropriate resources and find DESE grants or resources to enhance evidence-based instructional practices when teachers need them. The Reading Support Staff will plan and facilitate professional development for teachers, with an emphasis on early literacy (grades K-4). As a Reading Support Staff, you will collaborate with HCCS ELA Head of Department, working towards high and equitable literacy achievement across the school.
Reading Support at HCCS includes:
Provide and lead effective literacy instruction support that may include:
- Evaluate the outcomes of HCCS SABIS reading initiatives and provide feedback, and possible improvements on an annual basis.
- Helping HCCS implement evidenced-based, culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices that promote deeper learning for all learners at the level of the standards in ELA/Literacy.
- Deliver professional development and provide instructional resources for HCCS teachers.
Support HCCS in achieving our literacy improvement goals through DIBELS assessment data, progress monitoring, and coaching.
- Assisting teachers in developing equity-focused routines to support evidence-based, culturally sustaining instruction across all classrooms and facilitate professional learning.
Collaborate with other HCCS departments and/or programs and offerings when needed.
HCCS is looking for candidates with:
- Familiarity with ELA and Literacy curriculum and instruction, including the MA Curriculum Framework, evidenced-based instructional practices, and tiered systems of support.
- Dedication to culturally and linguistically responsive practices in literacy.
- Knowledge of instructional practices from experience, including the connection of effective professional development, high-quality curriculum, and the systems and structures for achieving equity.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based concepts and practices for early literacy.
- Understanding of language and literacy development for multilingual learners, the WIDA 2020 standards, and linguistically affirming practices.
- Ability to deliver high quality, clear, and helpful written and verbal communication with stakeholders as well as professional development.
- Attention to detail and ability to coordinate complex work involving multiple tasks and in different departments.
- Experience working on complex projects independently, including being organized with documents, creating a comprehensive timeline, and meeting deadlines.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in subject matter or related field.
- Minimum: Licensed in the Commonwealth in the subject matter and grade level you are
applying.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in subject matter.
- Preferred: 1-3 yrs. experience.
Typical teacher hours are 7:45am – 3:20pm, with twice/month Wednesday staff meetings until 4:30pm. Occasional parent/teacher conference attendance is required.
Compensation: HCCS offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including performance bonuses and stipends based on attendance, licensure advancement, and PLC participation. HCCS’s compensation package includes generous healthcare benefits, dental, vision and retirement plans. The salary range is $55,000 – $65,000/yr.
