Job Responsibilities:
1. Perform Diagnostic Tests:
- Conduct echocardiograms (transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms) to assess heart conditions.
- Perform vascular ultrasound examinations, including carotid, arterial, and venous studies.
2. Patient Care:
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and answering questions.
- Position patients properly to obtain accurate images.
- Monitor patients during procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
3. Image Acquisition and Analysis:
- Operate ultrasound equipment to capture images of the heart and blood vessels.
- Analyze and interpret ultrasound data to provide preliminary findings to physicians.
- Ensure high-quality images and accurate measurements are obtained.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Record patient information and examination results in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Prepare detailed reports for physicians, summarizing findings and observations.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of ultrasound equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues with equipment.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
- Certification from an accredited sonography program.
2. Licensure and Certification:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
3. Experience:
- Prior experience in cardiac and vascular ultrasound is preferred.
- Clinical experience through internships or previous employment.
4. Skills:
- Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and related software.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and pathology.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
5. Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment and position patients.
- Ability to lift and move patients as necessary.
