Job Overview:
The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company. This position ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, maintains robust financial controls, and supports strategic financial planning. The Controller will work closely with senior management to drive financial performance and contribute to the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management:
- Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted results to provide insights and recommendations.
- Assist department heads with budget management and cost control initiatives.
3. Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring the timely completion of audits.
4. Financial Analysis:
- Provide financial analysis and decision support for senior management.
- Develop financial models and conduct ad hoc analyses as needed.
- Monitor financial performance indicators and provide actionable insights.
5. Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary tools and training to perform their duties effectively.
6. Strategic Planning:
- Partner with the CFO and senior management on strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of the company's financial strategy and long-term financial planning.
- Evaluate and improve financial processes to support the company’s growth and efficiency goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
