Summary
Ensures that the Cast Room is run in an efficient manner by performing the following duties. Works cooperatively with other members of SCOI. Provides assistance in the examination, treatment and management of patients under direction of the physician. Performs the essential functions of a Medical Assistant when providing coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
1. Reports to work as scheduled every day.
2. Works cooperatively with others and acts in a way that supports policy, vision, mission and values of SCOI.
3. Complies with SCOI policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
4. Applies Casts and splinting as per physician protocols
5. Proficiency in removing of Casting and splinting materials
6. Staple and Suture removal
7. Assists Physicians and Medical Assistants as needed
8. Order all Casting Supplies
9. Order all Office Supplies
10. Stocks Cast Room/Exam Rooms
11. Maintains Biohazard materials
12. Maintains Emergency Medical Kit
13. Maintains OSHA manual
14. Coordinates laundering of shorts and gowns with Linen Supply Vendor
15. Checks Night Line messages daily
16. Checks Medication Line daily
17..Assists in clinic as needed (MA/PC)
18. Scans/Index patient face sheet/histories/authorizations/records via SRS
19. Verifies and records allergy information in EMR.
20. Obtains patient medical history as instructed by physician.
21. Instructs and educates patients as directed by the physician.
22. Schedules return appointments when needed.
23. Schedules MRI as needed and forwards appropriate script for MRI/MR Arthrograms to designated department in approved manner.
24. Schedules patient PT and diagnostic testing and forwards appropriate script for same to designated department in approved manner.
25. Follows all policy and procedure with regard to transmission of scripts through EMR to designated departments i.e. LE Critical Pathway, PT scripts, MRI scripts, Pharmaceutical.
26. Maintain Work Comp Authorizations.
27. Provides physician with necessary instruments and materials during exam.
28. Stocks exam rooms regularly with materials and supplies prior to the beginning of clinic.
29. Based upon the physician protocols, the following may be required:
Set up injections
Clean wounds
Taking of vital signs
Application of dressings
Fitting of braces, splints, corsets and or other orthopedic supplies.
Scheduling of surgeries.
Provide pre-op instruction, post-op instruction and patient education as designated by physician.
Cleans exam rooms after each patient and at the conclusion of clinic.
Maintains biohazard and sharps container according to SCOI procedure and OSHA guidelines.
Pre-Certs custom DME/specialty items prior to dispensing per policy.
Ensures all appropriate PRA’s are filled out and scanned to EMR.
Maintains linen supply, depositing gowns, lab coats and shorts in designated hampers for pick up and cleaning.
Sterilizes instruments following SCOI procedures and OSHA guidelines.
Inputs work comp status sheets into EMR daily as per policy.
30. Responsible for keeping the work area in good condition to prevent injuries.
i. Good housekeeping
ii. Identify and protect from hazards
iii. Follow designated safety procedures
iv. No food/drink in patient areas, pods, nurse stations, cast rooms and radiology.
31. Returns Ultrasound Machines to the designated locations
v. Clean and hangs the ultrasound machine probes after exams
vi. Uploads all completed exams on a daily basis.
32.Comply with HIPAA regulations and guidelines
vii. Protect patient privacy and confidentiality
viii. Locks computers in the rooms
ix. Use of proper form to release medical information and or amend medical records.
x. May be required to measures vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height and record in EMR
33. Other duties may be assigned by the Office Manager.

Pay: $22.00 - $40.00 per hour
