Job Purpose
YESS! of Charles County (YESS!) is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Enumerator to play a crucial role in gathering accurate and comprehensive data that will inform government policies, funding allocations, and community development. The work will involve engaging historically and predominantly African-American communities residing in rural areas of Charles County, MD to gain an understanding of environmental and water-related conditions.
About the Organization
YESS! of Charles County, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2003. We are designed to unite and empower individuals with and without disabilities, including the re-entry population, in the areas of education, social, vocational, and career development, and training/apprenticeship opportunities, by providing services and solutions designed to maximize one's' potential and mitigate any, or all barriers thereby creating a legacy and higher quality of life for themselves, their communities and beyond. In 2017, YESS! established SONYAS HOUSE, a temporary shelter and basic center program serving runaway and homeless youth from Charles and surrounding counties, and Better Dayz, Transitional Housing for Women and their minor children.
Position Overview
As an Enumerator, your primary responsibility will be to collect demographic, economic, and housing information through interviews and surveys out in the field at various residences. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data integrity. You will be provided with training and resources to ensure you can perform your duties effectively and efficiently. This role involves working in rural communities, including those that are hard to reach and have unique cultural norms. Enumerator Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct surveys which will include recording personal information.
- Gather, record, and encode information from a survey.
- Contact individuals to schedule interviews conducted in their own homes or offices, by mail, phone, or in person.
- Recognize and report all barriers to obtaining data.
- Use electronic devices to submit data to a supervisor and discuss developments daily.
- Assist those surveyed in completing and interpreting questionnaires.
- Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of records.
- Address and resolve any issues or concerns from respondents.
- Verify and update address lists and maps.
- Attend training sessions and briefings.
- Work independently and manage time effectively.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with respondents.
- Adhere to all survey guidelines and procedures.
- Travel to various neighborhoods, including remote areas.
- Maintain a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Assist with follow-up visits as needed.
- Provide feedback on data collection processes.
- Ensure all equipment is used and maintained properly.
- Collaborate with other enumerators and team members.
- Promote the importance of the survey to the community.
Requirements for Position

- Fluency in Spanish is an advantage.
Compensation and Location
YESS! of Charles County will offer a rate of $900/week for roughly 40 hours per week to complete this work on a temporary basis; this includes paid training. Due to the temporary nature of this position, benefits such as health insurance or paid holidays are not included. Most work is performed in person, and will take place in rural areas of southern Charles County, MD. The stipend covers all travel and work expenses related to site visits. Proximity to the work site and local knowledge are an advantage.
