We are seeking experienced Crane Operators to work at our busy port terminals. This is an opportunity for the right individuals with a GOOD WORK ETHIC to demonstrate their ability. operate a crane to move product or materials to or from storage areas, or to load and unload trucks, railroad cars, or ships. Must be able to work overtime, nights and weekends while working in all weather conditions. This position requires travel to other port locations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Operates crane following all safety, training and proper rigging procedures.
Tasks Performed:
- Picks up and places bulk material in hoppers using a bucket or clam shell attachment. Bulk materials include but are not limited to, salt, perlite, sulfur and other commodities.
- Responsible for communication with management, the ships crew and the signal person.
- Responsible for inspecting crane for unsafe conditions, completion of required records, and communication of unsafe conditions.
- Inspects lashing and wire rope to assure safe operation.
- Properly levels the crane prior to use.
- Shuts down and secures the crane properly when leaving it unattended. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and associate may also perform other reasonable related business duties as assigned by the supervisor and other management as required. Mandatory
Minimum Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Required to lift up to 60 lbs on an intermittent basis. The employee is frequently required to sit with alternate standing. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to outside weather conditions or a covered warehouse environment.
Qualifications
- 1-5 years previous crane operator experience
- Experience working in the Stevedore Industry
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation of cranes.
- Ability to operate cranes by pushing and pulling levers and depressing pedals to raise, lower and rotate boom and to raise and lower by sight or with the aid of a signal’s assistant
- Ability to read and comprehend standard instructions, short correspondence, and memos, including, safety, instructional and procedural manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Able to work in conjunction with other team members and supervisions via radio, phone and/or hand signals.
- Understands and correctly uses the machines load chart.
- Reacts to changes in conditions that affect the safe operation of the crane.
- Able to pick, carry, swing and place a load smoothly and safely.
- Must have valid driver’s license and TWIC card.
Job Type: Full-Time with required travel
