Our High School Math teacher is responsible for the values based education of the scholars entrusted to his/her care through both delivery of the instructional program and modeling of appropriate skills, attitudes and behaviors. There is no more important relationship in the school than that between the teacher and scholar.** A teacher at Catalyst must be mission driven and results oriented. He or she must hold the belief that not only can all scholars learn, but that they willlearn. The Catalyst teacher must take steps to gain command of the curriculum and the classroom and assume responsibility for the success of each child.
The High School teacher is immediately accountable to the principal. It is the teacher’s duty to utilize every possible resource to drive his/her scholars toward superior outcomes, as defined in Catalyst’s outcomes and metrics document – the leading indicators being:
- 95% of our scholars will be on track with credits to graduate in 4 years
- We will maintain a highly structured, respectful, supportive, and disciplined environment that maximizes the use of instructional minutes and reflects Catalyst’s character traits and values.
A Catalyst teacher must:
- Be excited about the fact that you, as the teacher, are the primary driver for your scholars’ academic success.
- Be relentless in ensuring the scholars you teach and live up to our high expectations and achieve academic success.
- Believe in the importance of backwards planning and focus on a data-based daily outcome that drives results.
- Be excited about the idea of collaboration with both grade level and department teams
- Nurture a classroom environment that is organized, disciplined, focused, and on task.
- Foster strong relationships with the scholars you teach in class as well as those you are an advisor for as a part of college seminar.
- Establish and follow through on classroom routines and procedures.
- Be excited about the idea of collaboration with both grade level and department teams.
A Catalyst teacher must deliver these professional responsibilities:
- Participate in faculty in-service, team meetings, and professional development on scheduled early dismissal and all day professional development days.
- Maintain classroom protocols and procedures that demonstrate discipline, order and rigor aligned with Catalyst’s cultural values and expectations.
- Consistently collect, review, and use data to inform instruction.
- Complete unit plans, assessment, and lesson plans that are aligned to the curriculum and driven by scholar data.
- Adhere to and enforce all school policies as set forth in the staff and scholar handbooks.
- Actively participate in all staff orientations, meetings, in-services, grade or department level team meetings, parent meetings, scholar conferences.
- Reflect critically on teaching practice and implement improvement strategies as needed.
- Implement all components of the Catalyst Schools instructional and assessment programs with fidelity.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE*:*
Valid Illinois teaching license through ISBE
Mathematics endorsement
3-5 years classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:**
Experience with these programs is preferred:
Algebra, Geometry, Calculus
College Readiness Standards and Common Core Standards
Understanding by Design lesson planning
Data collection/use in practice
