We are looking for an experienced product manager with expertise in launching parts into the automotive aftermarket. This role reports to the Director of Product Development and interfaces with other development team members, engineers, and sales support teams. A hybrid or remote work schedule is available. Our headquarters is in Simi Valley, CA.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Generate product ideas and introduce new products into our growing portfolio of automotive parts. Idea generation and introduction includes performing competitive analysis, completing cost studies, setting target prices, evaluating vendor capabilities, and negotiating with vendors.
- Set up new parts in our ERP system including data such as sales and pricing forecasts, part interchanges, and demand factors.
- Kick off development projects by reviewing OEM samples, identifying failure modes, designing improvements, and detailing out product opportunities.
- Deconstruct or coordinate analysis of sample parts as needed to design and prototype solutions.
- Ensure that feature, quality, and cost objectives are reached. Support production of required market launch materials, product specifications, product instructions.
- Negotiate technical and commercial terms with vendors.
- Provide technical direction to engineers and technicians.
- Identify and suggest areas for improvement.
- Provide insight during the production and validation of first article samples.
- Maintain current knowledge and expertise of product engineering technologies, new product designs, competitor capabilities and practices, market conditions, and market channels.
- Travel to industry related trade shows or corporate headquarters as needed.
Requirements Include:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of automotive parts and their functions
- Experience with product research and market analysis
- Familiarity with various manufacturing methods, capabilities, and rough costs
- Ability to think strategically, analytically and creatively
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Preferred Capabilities/Experience Include:
- Automotive aftermarket parts industry experience
- Product Management experience
- Familiarity with aftermarket auto parts brands and market positioning
- Technical problem-solving expertise. Thinks conceptually, links symptoms and problems to identify root causes, formulates potential solutions and follows them to implementation.
- Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree
- Manufacturing and/or fabrication experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization in a professional manner.
