SUMMARY: The Production Technician Lead is expected to be a leader on the production floor and to look for ways to improve the overall molding operations by promoting productivity, quality, and safety; as well as supervise the production technicians and the production support technicians. The Production Technician Lead will also set up molds, troubleshoot the injection molding process to meet customer requirements, direct appropriate resources and maintain high housekeeping standards; this is a hands-on position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned.
Planning and Scheduling
- Communicate with the necessary personnel to schedule production activities daily.
- Coordinate training needs with the appropriate trainers and Human Resources.
- Direct activities for all production technical personnel on the shift with respect to the current priority list and personnel capabilities.
- Transmit rundown information to proceeding shifts and departments as needed through IQMS rundowns.
- Review and process vacation requests, ensure technician shift coverage.
Presses and Equipment
- Perform technician job duties which include mold set-ups, color changes, label changes, troubleshooting, servicing, and adjusting machine components to produce plastic molded parts that meet customer specifications. Verify production requirements are met and maintained.
- Troubleshoot secondary equipment problems in the Molding Department.
- Monitor and record process settings and changes on the Process Monitoring Record.
- Communicate with Quality Assurance to determine the customer’s requirements and verify quality standards as needed.
Supervision and Leadership
- Train, council, motivate, coach, evaluate performance and discipline direct reports as needed. Demonstrate fair, equal, and consistent employee relations regarding company policies and procedures.
- Investigate, identify, and solve problems within the department including personnel, production, quality and safety concerns.
- Include Human Resources, Operations leader and Production Manager on all department correspondence and needs.
- Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Steel toe shoes are required personal protective equipment.
Food Safety
- All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma plus 3 – 5 years of technical related experience and/or formal training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess strong leadership capabilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate and percent.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, TOOLS: Low Lift, Crane, Forklift and Lockout Tagout certification required. Production Technician Lead must be able to provide all applicable tools to perform their duties.
COMPUTER SKILLS Experience with basic Microsoft Windows is required. Attention to detail is critical while entering production information into computer programs. IQMS experience preferred.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions given in written, verbal, or diagram form. The ability to effectively prioritize activities and conduct duties with minimal supervision is important. The ability to lead by example and handle problems in a professional manner is essential to this position.

The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (misc. equipment) for several feet. Height of the 50 lb. objects is from floor to waist height. Must initiate push/pulling forces of up to 40 lbs. and sustained forces of up to 20 lbs. for up to 100 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is loud, hearing protection is required on the production floor. The work environment is climate-controlled year around.
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be always worn when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is always required while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves, steel toe shoes and, if applicable, beard nets.
