The Renaissance Charter School (TRCS) is a PK – 12th grade school in Jackson Heights Queens. We are a mission driven school, focused on developing leaders for the renaissance of New York. We are child centered and believe that excellent teachers, robust curricula and a supportive community will help all students succeed in becoming well-rounded, engaged, compassionate advocates and happy citizens in our global world. We are looking for an art teacher who will take part in helping us meet those goals in our PK – 5th grade classes.

Teachers at TRCS will:
· Create and deliver meaningful and engaging lessons and themed units for students in PreK, 3rd - 6th grade, encompassing both skills and knowledge, including but not limited to:
- Multiple mediums and methods
- Core learning connections
- Art history
- Current art in the world
- Diverse arts through cultural lenses
· Collaborate with colleagues to support core learning in math, English language arts, science and/or social studies.
· Differentiate and accommodate multiple modes of learning and performance
· Utilize all information supplied in Response to Intervention formats, teacher reports, parent meetings and IEPs to help support student growth and academic success
· Maintain consistent, positive and proactive communication with families
· Maintain a positive classroom culture that encompasses the academic, social and emotional needs of students and is responsive to and celebrates diverse cultural experiences
· Participate in professional development
· Conduct their endeavors in a professional, positive manner
· Plan and execute student presentations/exhibits
· Encourage all students to express themselves through art and foster their intellectual development
· Communicate their needs with school leadership in terms of materials, supplies, curricular supports and training

· Be able to manage multiple grades and multiple lessons weekly, including keeping grade books up to date

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (and an eventual master’s degree) required
· NY State teaching certification in visual arts or exceptional experience in fine arts preferred and pathway to New York State teaching certification required
· Teaching or student teaching experience in a school required
· Training and/or academic coursework in art history, art technique, and/or art education, and familiarity with state and national standards for arts education required
· Experience with and interest in working with high needs students preferred
· Experience in teaching rigorous arts units to young children; experience engaging students in the creative process, cultivating their artistic talents, and deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history preferred
· Experience with and/or interest in designing and coordinating student art installations preferred
· Familiarity with and/or interest in utilizing or collaborating with museums and cultural institutions to engage student learning, preferred
· Familiarity with and/or interest in using a variety of instructional techniques, media and materials, including but not limited to technology preferred

Pay: $70,789.00 - $73,969.00 per year
