Engineer II - System Integration Testing

Responsibilities: Remote position. Conduct testing activities on software development projects within the Firmware Engineering department. Complex integration testing of the three major release areas – software, firmware, and utility hardware (meters, line sensors, Gas/Water modules). Create unique and non-repeatable Test Plans based on product specifications. Multi-tasking, requiring test execution on multiple areas simultaneously (multiple software and multiple firmware prototypes), and upgrading and maintaining test systems for junior test engineers, troubleshooting defects with engineers, and capturing proof-of-test for eventual demos. Design, execute, and manage test plans, scripts, and cases. Responsible for the setup, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of test environments. Identify and manage issues for development projects. Work on R&D hardware, firmware, and software, and complete solutions projects as a member of a cross-functional team. Apply knowledge of AMI and Smart Grid Systems to collaborate with team members and R&D teams to design, develop, and validate complete Smart Grid solutions and work on component delivery. Deliver assigned improvements and create, revise, and execute test plans and test cases. Design well-organized code and testing methodologies, working with Quality Assurance test tools. Identify testing risks and propose solutions to mitigate these risks. Serve as an escalated support resource for released products. Work directly with software and firmware developers to ensure requirement implementation and verification and review test case coverage. Detect, document, and track system defects throughout the software quality assurance process. Write firmware and software defect reports, and identify, and record activities performed to produce software malfunctions. Apply experience with embedded development and network testing including protocol analysis and load testing, shell scripting, hardware design, and troubleshooting to test software with database components, HTML5 based user interfaces, web-based user interfaces, and web services for functionality, load, and scalability. Work with source control and automated build systems, and utilize standard computer applications as they relate to software and firmware development and testing. Follow project and corporate software plans, standards, and procedures to perform software verification, and design, test, build prototypes, test data set creation, and conduct other activities related to testing. Develop manual and automated functional and regression tests for web services and web-based user interfaces, working with testing tools, test automation, and Python, ANSI C/C++, and C#.
Salary: $118,000/year
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field and five years of experience in the job offered or five years of experience software test development. Experience must include five years each of the following: utilize standard computer applications related to software/firmware development and testing including Linux Shells, Wireshark, Terminal Emulators; Networking Testing including protocol analysis and load testing; Linux/Unix set up and configuration; source control and automated build systems; full software development life cycle; design code\testing methodologies; and test tool, test automation, and production-level programming with Python, ANSI C/C++, or C#. Experience must include three years each of the following: AMI and Smart Grid Systems and Solutions; Shell Scripting, Hardware Design and Troubleshooting; and testing HTML5 based user interfaces.
