I operate a two-person shop and due to a consistent flow of new projects am looking to hire a woodworker with a strong desire to grow professionally.
Please note: Minimum 2 years of professional experience in woodworking, architectural fabrication, millwork installation. (University/School/Communal woodshop or at-home garage experience does not apply).
ABOUT ME (please read): I’m very methodical and meticulous, and I’m looking for similar qualities in the person who will fill this role. I am also mechanically inclined, obsessed with details, work with precision and hold myself to high standards of craftsmanship. I’m a lifelong learner who is constantly working on improving myself, my efficiency, and my shop. It’s good if you know what “Lean” means.
For us to work well together and for you to get the most from your experience working in the shop you must:
- Obsess about every detail.
- Have an exceptional mechanical aptitude and understanding of how all types of machines and mechanical devices operate.
- Be obsessed with order, organization, cleanliness, and putting things back exactly how they are required to be put in place.
- Love working in a process-oriented environment and following processes and directions.
- Be curious and like to dig beneath the surface to get the answers.
- Have the physical stamina to work standing up during the day and occasionally lift items 50lbs +.
- Desire to be useful in all aspects of the shop and have a can-do attitude.
- Be punctual and reliable.
- Welcome being held to high standards.

About the company: Brownstone Door Co. specializes in the fabrication and installation of historic doors in NYC and beyond. The company has a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and unparalleled knowledge of historic NYC details.
Day to day in the shop includes: milling various door parts and components, cutting, mitering, gluing, clamping, sanding doors and door frames, scuffing, door hardware installation/locksmithing, preparing doors for delivery, loading doors into the truck, unloading doors on-site, and assisting with door installations, keeping the shop clean and well-maintained, inventory management and control, unloading lumber deliveries, etc.
Position Details:
Hours: Initial hours are part-time, Monday – Thursday, 11am – 6pm, as you are trained to work on projects independently. The length of the part-time period will depend on your level of experience and your ability to absorb our fabrication methods, workflows and processes.
Regular Full-time hours are Monday – Thursday, 8am – 6pm.
Compensation: Commensurate with your skill set and experience. We would love to pay you what you are worth.
