Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse
Reports To: RN Supervisor/Clinical Manager
FLSA Statue: Non-Exempt
Summary: Provides prescribed medical and surgical treatment and personal care services of patients in a physician’s office by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Communicates with patients and their families regarding surgeries, treatment using HIPAA rules and guidelines.
Performs clinical procedure such as wound check, suture removals, sterile dressing changes, prescription refills, prior authorizations.(under supervision of an MD, PA or RN).
Function in a dependent role at the direction of the MD/PA/RN.
Observe, document, collect data of patient signs, and symptoms that can be used by the MD/PA/RN in making decisions about care.
Measuring vitals, preparing patients for examination, assisting providers during the examination.
Act as a scribe for MD/PA.
Administer medications pursuant to a specific order from a provider. This included OTC medications, ointments, creams, and injectables as prescribed by the MD/PA.
Administers local anesthesia.(under supervision of an MD, PA or RN).
Prepares patient for surgery (vitals, chair positioning, draping, documentation) and assists physician in surgeries (Biopsies, C&D, Dermabrasion, Excisions).
Supervises unlicensed care staff, such as CMA.
The preparation of the local anesthetic, must be for use by the RN/LPN within the present shift and only for her/his patients.
Set up trays for surgical procedures.
Conducts post operative patient telephone calls.
Discharges and reviews standing order instructions with patient and/or family members with regard to HIPAA rules and guidelines.
Prepares and sterilizes instruments using the autoclave.
Maintains and troubleshoots autoclave.
Re-stocks operating and exam rooms with necessary supplies and paperwork.
Maintains crash cart medical supplies, medication cabinet list, and expired supplies if assigned.
Maintains CPR certification and performs if necessary.
Attends clinical meetings, education programs, and training session of staff as required.
Prepares QI projects as directed.
Answers and routes phone calls as needed.
Orders necessary medical supplies or notifies appropriate staff of needed supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid NYS Practical Nurse License
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to patients, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, nonverbal communication, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word Processing software, order processing systems, and medical database software.
