Position Overview
The Lead Carpenter position is a bags-on supervisor and craftsman with extensive skill and experience necessary to perform carpentry tasks and manage job sites with multiple employees and trade contractors. This position must be able to ensure exceptional quality of work, representing Melton’s high standards and level of detail and provide outstanding customer service.
Essential Functions
- Leads and manages carpenters, subcontractors, and material suppliers on each project.
- Represents the company as the primary daily contact for the client.
- Responsible for complete customer satisfaction, maintaining all quality standards and ensuring professionalism of all Melton employees at the project site.
- Ensures project schedule and budget targets are met.
- Possesses exceptional organizational skills and daily planning habits.
- Reviews estimated job costs and schedules vs. actual on a weekly basis with Project Manager.
- Manages and/or performs all carpentry labor and directs all construction on the job site.
- Provides in-field training and guidance to less experienced field staff as needed.
- Identifies and documents areas for process and/or skill improvement in the field.
- Helps to maintain records for each project, which includes permits, plans, schedules, change orders and all other pertinent information.
- Communicates daily with Project Manager with regards to daily accomplishments and next days’ assignments.
- Oversees 2-3 projects concurrently (depending on size and complexity)
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices, and procedures.
- Possesses a high level of professionalism in interacting with clients.
- Proficient in reading and understanding Construction Documents of all varieties (Plans, Submittals, Sketches, Structural drawings, etc.)
- Highly adept in construction layout, framing and finishing work.
- Possesses mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material and labor estimates and weekly cost analysis.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of construction safety and OSHA regulations.
- Possesses high level of quality control standards and ensures on-site team adheres to these standards.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills for interacting and communication with the on-site team and clients.
- Communicates clearly and directly with on-site team and trades about construction related processes and activities.
- Efficiently delegates tasks to on-site team and coordinates trade contractors on a single jobsite for maximum productivity.
- Identifies potential scheduling conflicts and suggests/recommends revisions as needed.
Education & Experience
- Must have minimum ten plus years remodeling experience.
- Experience with Lead Carpenter System preferred.
- Must have experience in framing, finish, and trim for interior and exterior installations.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Must be able to operate a full spectrum of carpentry tools.
- Must have an extensive set of personal tools which can be used on the job.
- Must have reliable transportation to reach (multiple) project sites.
- Must be able to work safely at client sites in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
