Summary
Zedcor is looking to add a Junior Accountant to its growing accounting team in Houston. We are a small group of hard-working people (fewer than 100 employees) who will do anything to make sure our customers are satisfied, and the business succeeds. This will be an integral role within our accounting team. Working closely with the controller and senior financial accountant, this role will include a mix of tasks that require attention to detail and an aptitude for numbers. This position will be based out of our Houston office and will be perfect if you are detailed oriented, have a positive can-do attitude and are looking to grow your career. This role is responsible for running our AP automation software, processing payments, bank reconciliations, assisting with payroll, invoice preparation, following up on AR collections, HR administrative tasks and basic report generation.
Summary of tasks
- Manage Zedcor’s AP automation software including reviewing purchase orders for coding, prepare weekly PO reports and complete online bank payments
- Complete bi-weekly payroll and reporting, including summarizing employee timesheets
- Prepare monthly invoices based on data from operations; ensure invoices are accurate, meet client billing requirements and that proper internal backup is in place for revenue recognition
- Complete vendor credit check forms, assist new vendors with Zedcor’s onboarding process maintain vendor database for accuracy and up to date information; review EFT data with verbal and written confirmations
- Prepare weekly accounts receivable report and follow up with accounts that are
- Complete bank reconciliations weekly
- Review expense and credit card reports for accuracy, proper coding and timeliness of submission; assist with training new employees on preparation of expense/ credit card reports and Zedcor process
- Prepare cheque runs and respond to queries from vendors
- Employee onboarding and offboarding including preparation of onboarding package for employees using templated forms
- Maintaining employee files, vendor files and contractor files from an operations requirement perspective
- Assist with month end reconciliations and analysis
- Respond to internal and external emails, phone calls and other correspondence in a timely fashion
- Perform other duties as requested; general office duties
Qualifications and skills

- 1-2 years’ experience in full cycle accounting, operational accounting and/ or payroll
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma/ certificate in accounting preferred
- Must be intelligent, hard working with a positive attitude; willing to assist with tasks outside of normal day to day tasks
- Self starter, driven and motivated to work independently with little oversight
- Keen sense of curiosity, a sense of urgency and an ability to deal with change in a start up company environment
- Strong aptitude for numbers, ability to analyze a large volume of data and present insights in a concise manner for audience
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, problem solve and provide solutions
- Knowledge of ERP systems, AP automation software and other modern accounting software
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; proficient in use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Travel to the office is required
