Canaan Xpress is a growing family-owned drayage trucking, logistics and warehousing company, in Kenilworth NJ. Our services include import and export transportation and transloading. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety / Fleet Relations Manager to join our team. The Safety / Fleet Relations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining a safe and strong fleet of 40 trucks, 70 chassis/trailers and commercial drivers, 10k SF warehouse, and addressing any issues that may arise.
Knowledgeable in all Safety related areas (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, etc.). The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a background in transportation with logistics, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals. This position also manages the safety department with DOT driver and warehouse staff safety and training along with vehicle incident analysis, and development of effective corrective actions.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to maintain strong relationships with commercial drivers, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing any concerns or issues, ensuring a positive work environment.
- Develop procedures for and manage fleet accident and injury prevention programs through use of trends identified in accident reports and historical analysis.
- Be Task (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Semi- Annual and Annual) and Detail oriented.
- Investigate all accidents.
- Monitor driver performance and provide feedback, coaching, and support as needed.
- Collaborate with the recruiting team to attract and retain qualified commercial drivers, contributing to the company's growth and success.
- Support Terminal Director on yard operations
- Monitor and hold accountable terminal employees and drivers
- Provide training and education for all drivers and warehouse staff.
- Address and resolve any driver-related issues or concerns in a timely and effective manner.
- Manage DOT and FMCSA compliance as related to Safety.
- Plan and execute the annual safety week of awareness campaign.
- Identify trends and areas of success or concern.
- Conduct audits and assessment of fleet drivers and warehouse personnel.
- Maintain open lines of communication with drivers, offering support and guidance as needed.
- Coordinate with other departments to address operational needs and ensure the smooth functioning of driver-related processes.
- Recommend best practices and initiatives to improve fleet safety.
- Collaborate with Human Resource Manager and Operations Manager on Safety and risk management.
- Stay current on industry best practices and emerging trends in driver relations to recommend improvements to company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or a related field, with a focus on driver relations or fleet management.
- 2+ years of experience in Drayage and Warehouse.
- 5+ years in DOT regulations and the commercial driving industry.
- Experience designing and leading one on one and group training.
- Commercial Class A Driver’s License required.
- Experience in GPS / Samsara, and Hazmat Training preferred.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
