The School of Architecture and Design at the New York Institute of Technology invites outstanding candidates for the position of full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Architecture with expertise in Computational Design and Digital Fabrication with emerging technology applications and investigations.
This position will be based in our NYC and/or Long Island campuses and requires teaching, coordination, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels in core and advanced architectural design studios as well as in courses, seminars, and electives. The responsibilities for a successful academic path will include teaching, research, and collegial service.
Responsibilities:
Must demonstrate a track record of scholarly achievements, creative activities, and/or professional practice with a proven agenda that investigates design approaches with critical and entrepreneurial perspectives. The position requires an explorative research attitude toward technology that drives innovation, informs creative pedagogical models, and the pursuit of relevant publications at the New York Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture and Design.
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate willing to join dynamic design faculty, progressive research groups and labs (Artificial Intelligence Lab, Robotic Fabrication Lab, ReMEDIA Lab - Regenerative Material Environments for Medical and Design Interactive Applications, Large Scale 3D Printing Lab, HIVE Lab - Home for Innovation, Visualization, and Exploration).
The applicant’s expertise should integrate computational design, advanced technologies and cutting-edge digital fabrication equipment, tools and methods with a proven record of applications, explorations, and accomplishments. It will be desirable to have candidates with strong skills and interests in more than one of these areas: architectural design studio, computational design for construction optimization; programming, AI, data management for fabrication at a variety of scales and with different materials; three-dimensional printing technology for biomass 3DP, LDM, FDM, C3DP; process design, IoT, controls and robotic automation for circular building products.
The selected candidate is expected to be evolving a research agenda thereby defining clear milestones and goals supported by internal and external funding and validated via peer-evaluated professional or research projects, publications, conferences, competitions, exhibitions and/or installations. The candidate will be joining in an active role in the further development of trans-disciplinary research projects leading to the expansion of collaborations and partnerships with other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, thereby contributing to New York Tech’s excellence and the enhancement of our university’s reputation.
The candidate should be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively, be a good team collaborator and communicator, and have excellent organizational skills. An essential role will play the contribution to curricular development, studio sequences coordination at the undergraduate and graduate levels as needed, collegial service at the school and university, active participation in program accreditation, student mentoring and advising, retention and recruitment initiatives, and activities serving the community, the School of Architecture and Design, and the Institution.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.
Minimum Salary: USD $73,500.00/Yr. Maximum Salary: USD $125,000.00/Yr.
