Position Overview
Are you a strategic fleet services leader? Do you combine in-depth knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems with vendor partnership expertise and organizational efficiency? As Fleet Supervisor/Fleet Manager you’ll report directly to the Operations Director. With primary responsibility for vehicle repair and maintenance operations, you’ll ensure that both scheduled and unscheduled services are performed with excellence. You’ll have the opportunity to build a fleet that meets the highest standards of reliability, safety and compliance. You’ll supervise internal and external technicians as you play a pivotal role in a company that knows that our fleet merits our best efforts and resources.This position is based in Upper Marlboro, MD, and Rockville, MD. Salary range $60K - $85K.
Key Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least 3 years experience as a Fleet Supervisor/Fleet Manager or Lead Technician for Medium/Heavy gasoline and diesel commercial motor vehicles (CMV’s)
- Advanced knowledge of
o Electrical systems
o Air brakes
o Medium and heavy duty diesel engines
o Computer-aid diagnostics
- Ability to perform inspections and supervise repairs related to: oil changes & fluid replenishments, suspensions & steering, tires, engine, transmission, heating and air conditioning, disk brake systems, air brake systems, hydraulics, refuse bodies, drivetrain and diesel emissions
- Expertise in using fleet management and onboard computing software
- Proficiency with vehicle procurement processes and 3rd party vendor relations
- Knowledge of DOT/EPA/OSHA requirements
- Ability to establish and administer systems
- Prioritization and time management skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Effective and professional communication skills using varied methods
- Collaboration and leadership skills

- Google Workspace or Microsoft Office proficiency
- Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record

Responsibilities
- Departmental planning and expense management
o Propose fleet growth plan
o Manage fleet budget
o Track fleet expenses
o Research, source and recommend purchase of vehicles
- Fleet administration and compliance
o Ensure vehicle tracking software and safety devices operate properly
o Manage driver vehicle inspection reporting (DVIR) system
o Implement vehicle parts catalog system and manage its inventory
o Administer vehicle registrations, permits and other regulatory tasks
o Select and manage fleet vendors
o Manage vendor performance
o Negotiate vendor performance and bills
o Create and implement preventive maintenance schedule for entire fleet
o Supervise inspections and repairs related to oil changes & fluid replenishments, suspensions & steering, tires, engine, transmission, heating and air conditioning, disc brake systems, air brake systems, hydraulics, refuse bodies, drivetrain and diesel emission
o Manage completion of emergency repairs
o Supervise and coach technicians
- Administer Foley driver qualification management system
