We are currently seeking a Fleet and Equipment Manager with experience managing a mechanic shop or overseeing a fleet and equipment. Duties & Responsibilities
The Fleet and Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of our company's fleet and construction equipment. This includes supervising shop personnel, managing workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and maintaining high levels of internal customer service. Our company is committed to ensuring our fleet and equipment are always in optimal condition to support our construction and maintenance operations
- Manage Shop Operations: Direct all activities related to shop workflow and processes, coordinating repairs and maintenance with mechanics, and generating purchase orders as needed.
- Supervise Staff: Assign work based on repair needs, manage workflow, monitor work volume, and ensure efficient, high-quality, and timely completion of tasks.
- Troubleshoot and Repair: Assist mechanics with equipment problem diagnosis and repairs.
- Inventory Management: Oversee parts and supply inventory, research vendors for cost-effective and high-quality parts, and maintain vendor relationships.
- Fleet and Equipment Management: Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of repairing or replacing equipment, oversee lifecycle management of the fleet, and ensure vehicles and equipment meet company standards for safety, reliability, and functionality.
- Compliance and Record-Keeping: Complete and maintain DOT checklists and inspections, ensure accurate vehicle records, and manage the annual maintenance program using computerized systems.
- Internal Customer Service: Provide exceptional service by assisting company employees with maintenance requests and representing the maintenance team professionally to all internal departments.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with shop mechanics, other employees, and company executives to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Safety and Training: Follow and enforce company safety policies, orient and train new team members, and provide ongoing mentoring and feedback to mechanics.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to squat, kneel, and lift objects from the ground occasionally.
- Ability to fully extend arms above the head and in front of the body.
- Frequently lifts weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights up to 50 pounds.
Schedule
- This is a Full-Time Year Round position.
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm (50-55 hours per week). Saturday hours as needed.
- Occasional overtime as workload dictates
Skills You Need
- Education and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certificate in automotive or related field preferred. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required; CDL preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of managerial or supervisory experience in a shop or similar environment. At least five years of experience in automotive and small engine repair.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, proficient in basic and complex repairs, familiar with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel, and understanding of budget and job cost systems.
