Hudson Valley Regional Community Health Centers, with locations in Brewster and Poughkeepsie, seeks a Medical Assistant for our Brewster location. This is a full time position. The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct care to patients in a clinical setting supporting the efforts of physicians, practitioners, and licensed nurses. Vocational/Technical school nursing training preferred. Must be BLS certified. High school diploma or equivalent required. Competitive salary, generous benefits and leave package.
Duties include:
Performing data entry into the Electronic Health Record (EHR);
Performing checking in/out procedures as needed;
Obtaining patient documents, medication lists and medical histories;
Obtaining patient’s vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy and other patient tests;
Preparing patients for examination and treatment;
Assisting physicians/consultant providers and nurses with examinations and procedures related to the clinical area of assignment, and providing instruments when required;
Collecting specimens according to standard procedure;
Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of examination rooms and medical supplying inventory, stocking rooms appropriately, washing and sterilizing a variety of medical equipment, supplies and equipment and maintaining appropriate checklists and logs;
Providing patient education under the direction of the licensed nurse or physician/practitioner;
Greeting patients and assisting with scheduling, screening phone calls, patient registration and billing;
Maintaining privacy and confidentiality by abiding by HIPAA rules and regulations;
Ensuring patient medications and records are faxed and/or transmitted accurately to their pharmacy and/or residence; and
Alerting the appropriate medical professional regarding abnormal lab results and follows physicians’ orders or special instructions
