Position Title: Senior Accounting Manager

Position Summary
The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing a set of accounting activities to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies, and external audits. This position will oversee and manage the daily operations of the General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Cash Room and Grant Accounting functions. This person will have three direct reports consisting of the Assistant Accounting Manager, Senior Accounts Payable Accountant, and Accounting Assistant & will be responsible for coaching and developing their staff. The Senior Accounting Manager will report to and work closely with the Senior Director of Accounting and others in the organization in analysis and reconciliation of accounts and development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, flexible, have a high level of integrity and be action and goal-oriented in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. The candidate should possess a solid operational and technical accounting background; strong leadership, communication, relationship building and collaboration skills; sound judgment and decision-making; and teamwork and people management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise as well as train, coach and develop three direct reports – Assistant Accounting Manager, Senior Accounts Payable Accountant and Accounting Assistant.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles in accordance with GAAP.
- Review, approve and post journal entries ensuring proper support & documentation.
- Ensure all banking transactions are addressed, properly recorded, and reconciled.
- Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded.
- Provide monthly financial analytics to explain variances for both actual vs budget and month over month.
- Maintain general ledger balance sheet account reconciliations for all Companies including the review and correction of account balances, as necessary.
- Plan, organize and coordinate the accounting and financial reporting for the Grant portfolio.
- Manage both the Accounts Payable and Cash Room functions.
- Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of fixed assets including activity in construction in progress accounts.
- Prepare the monthly sales tax returns.
- Lead the Georgia sales tax refund project.
- Assist in coordinating and completing the annual financial audit and agreed upon procedure reviews.

- Build strong working relationships with accounting/finance and operational departments.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years in accounting experience required.
- Leadership and management skills.
- Knowledge of GAAP required.
- Working knowledge of Great Plains G/L system a plus.
- Ability to function independently while maintaining clear communication with direct reports, senior management, and at all levels within the Organization.
- Well-developed problem analysis and resolutions skills.
- Above average ability to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.
