About the Optical technician role: Opticians assist customers with frame selection, eyewear fitting, and vision insurance reimbursement. We specialize in educating patients about their eyewear needs as well as their insurance benefits. Development strong patient relations is an important component of this role, the ability to interact professionally with patients at all times is essential.
Duties Include (italics are for specific centers and may not apply to all retail optician roles):
- Retail optical sales
- Provide spectacular customer service for all patients
- Fit glasses to the patient, taking measurements and performing custom adjustments
- Assist patients in shopping for their new stylish eyewear
- Accurately input patient data
- Recommend lens options based on finalized exam from doctor
- Track cleaning supplies and equipment maintenance
- Teach patients how to safely insert and remove contact lenses
- Run pre-screening tests for remote and in-person doctors
- Sanitize instruments
- Upload exam data to multiple EMR (electronic medical record) systems
- Guide patient through exam process
- Maintain professional atmosphere throughout exam
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Ability to navigate sales systems, computers, and calculators
- Basic phone skills
- Basic math skills
- Able to navigate basic data entry
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Understand and meet sales objectives
