Description Summary:
The A & D Supervisor is responsible for the assembly and disassembly of lattice cranes for construction projects, manufacturing plants, or shipyards. This individual is engaged in the supervision of personnel, lifting and moving of materials, signaling of crane, and the utilization of hand tools. The A & D supervisor is expected to work long hours, and subject to working weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Determine crane requirements by collecting measurements; analyzing ground conditions; assessing lateral, underground and overhead hazards.
- Verifies engineering applications by conducting tests and inspections; building and analyzing simulations.
- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
- Test connectivity to ensure safety and reliability.
- Angle, dip, and raise suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
- Align, level, and anchor equipment.
- Dismantle and store lattice and other equipment after use.
- Determines rigging requirements by assessing loads, lifting points, rigging geometry, hitch capacities, and working load limits.
- Familiarize and develop heavy lift plans.
- Assists with set-up of cranes.
- Assist in the rigging and lift design.
- Reads, interprets and follows procedures. Competent in reading and understanding specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation.
- Manages projects, other A&D Personnel, and customer labor.
- Maintains team accomplishments by communicating essential information.
- Obtains expert information and input from W. O. Grubb and manufacturers engineering groups.
- Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging lifting and rigging practices; participates in educational opportunities.
- Works well under pressure.
- Works within W. O. Grubb Safety policies.
- Understands and follows engineering drawings.
- Reports any deficiencies to Engineer and Branch Manager.
- Inspects the complete assembly to Engineered and Manufacturers drawings/specifications.
- Familiar with the following cranes: Manitowoc, LinkBelt, Liebherr, Demag, and Terex.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
- Must have 5-10 years of crane or heavy lift experience.
- Must have proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands:

- Approximately 3% of time spent in usual office conditions.
- Approximately 97% of time spent in external conditions which may include temperature variance, elevated noise levels, dust and fumes.
- Travel is required.

Work Environment:
The employee may be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment. The employee could occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the workplace is moderate.
