Position Title: Bookkeeper
Department: Bookkeeping
Reports directly to: AVP-Bookkeeping Supervisor/VP of Accounting
Position Purpose and Summary: While the exact duties of each position in the bookkeeping department vary, many tasks related to recording, balancing and reporting financial transactions are common. Assisting customers, both in person and by phone is a large part of the Bookkeepers daily responsibilities, therefore superior and quality customer service is a must. Regular contact with other bank department personnel is also required, thus making team work among all bank employees a necessity. Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, a number of duties may be asked of the bookkeeping employee.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide the highest level of service.
· Greet every customer with a warm welcome and a smile.
· Answer questions and assist customers with their accounts, both in person and by phone
· Perform regular general ledger bank account reconciliations
· Prepare incoming and outgoing wires
· Prepare customer bank statements
· Prepare daily reports for the bank president
· Assist or train other bank employees
· Promote bank products or services
· Refer customers to appropriate bank personnel for products or services offered
· Keep desk/area secure and clean at all times
· Report any discrepancies or suspicious activity
· Rotational Saturday Teller duties
· Involvement in community events and/or civic organizations.
· Other duties as assigned
Qualification Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Background check must be passed
· Perform basic math functions
· Excellent organizational skills and multitasking capabilities
· Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, memorandums, etc.
· Ability to present oneself in an appropriately clean professional dress and manner
· Provide courteous, knowledgeable and professional customer service both in person and on the phone
· Assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment
· Display an ability to remain attentive and discreet
· Ability to work cooperatively with others as part of a formal or informal team to accomplish Bank goals; to respect the needs, ideas, and contributions of others
Working Conditions and Hours:
The bookkeeping employees are all stationed at a desk within close vicinity of each other, calling for a great deal of cooperation, respect and discretion on the part of each employee in the department. Each Bookkeeper is assigned certain duties, however assisting others within the department or cross-training in particular duties is not uncommon. Most seem to enjoy this closeness and become good friends and helpers to one another. Bookkeepers typically work 8-9 hours a day, averaging 40 hours per week. Typical weekly hours would be; Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday is 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with a required minimum 30 minute lunch break, however you are allowed up to an hour. Rotational work on Saturdays in the Teller position, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. is included in the job duties and days are scheduled well in advance for preparation and convenience. This is a non-exempt position.
