Ulster BOCES is seeking School Bus Drivers for on-call, hourly positions. Candidates must possess a New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License, with both Passenger and School Endorsements, and no Air Brake restriction. They must also meet all New York State Article 19-A, State Education Department, and Department of Transportation requirements. The ideal candidate obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses, maintains discipline when students are on bus, remains familiar with proper driving techniques and new vehicle and/or traffic regulations. This person in this position will be conducting pre-check of bus before leaving, operating bus on a time schedule or on assigned trips, transporting authorized students only, picking up and discharging students at authorized stops, enforcing regulations against smoking or eating on the bus, exercising responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips, reporting undisciplined students to the proper authority, notifying the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness, reporting all accidents in detail and completing required reports, keeping assigned bus clean, sweeping daily, keeping windows and mirrors clear at all times, never leaving bus unattended with students or keys in it, filling out daily reports of mileage, defects, incidents and bus condition to be turned in at end of day or trip, fueling bus as needed, checks engine oil and fluid levels. Other duties will also be performed as directed by the immediate supervisor.
All Civil Service laws, rules and regulations apply. Fingerprinting required.
Civil Service Classification: Non-Competitive. Merit and fitness competitive examination does not apply.
Rate of Pay: $25.00/hour
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The work involves the operation of a school bus or van. The operator is responsible for the safety and conduct of the children who are passengers. The
work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway allowed the operator in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision over the work of others is not normally a function of this class. Does related work as required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
The typical work activities listed below, while providing representative examples of the variety of work assignments in the title, do not describe any individual position. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following as well as other related activities not described.
- Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions;
- Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;
- Reports any operational defect to immediate superior;
- Informs children about safety practices;
- Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;
- Keeps interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat;
- Maintains records of mileage, routes, times and incidents;
- Prepares and maintains maps of routes and pick-up points;
- May be required to operate a van or other similar vehicle;
- May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle;
- May operate a two-way radio;
- May exchange information with caretakers, parents or school personnel regarding students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possession of the appropriate New York State Driver's License;
2. Drivers must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;
3. Clean CDL license
