Summary
The Estimator will work with senior-level estimators and project managers to analyze bid documents and conditions to prepare accurate job costs for projects; verify costs with suppliers, labor, and subcontractors; and coordinate turnover efforts with the project manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects, or services, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes. May specialize according to particular service preformed.
- Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
- Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
- Consult with vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Coordinate with projects managers and other relevant company staff.
- Schedule incoming quotes from subcontractors and material and equipment suppliers, hold turnover meetings on successful bids, and meet bid delivery dates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education & Skills
- Associate’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering and/or Piping Trade Experience
- Autobid and Quotesoft estimating experience is preferred
- One or more years of related experience
- Detail oriented with the ability to multitask
- Ability to interact effectively with others, both within and outside of the organization
- Strong analytic skills and financial analysis skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of estimating software
Working Conditions
- Office environment – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
- Construction site environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb.
- Must be able to travel to job sites 10% of the time
