Job Overview:
This position is responsible for reviewing bid opportunities and technical specifications to develop takeoffs, cost estimates and formal bid proposals. Also includes Project Engineering and Project Management of awarded contracts.
Responsibilities:
- Review technical specifications and develop project take-offs
- Develop and estimate job costs for bid work (includes self-performed work, as well as, identifying qualified subcontractors and obtaining pricing)
- Develop and prepare project submittals, as required, to complete awarded bid work contracts. Submittals may include product technical information, mechanical drawings, environmental health and safety plans, etc. Coordinate with 3rd party consultants for specialty services and submittals.
- Project management of awarded bid contracts from project award until project closeout. Includes writing Service Requests, preparing preliminary schedules of construction, monthly progress billing, preparing change order proposals, project closeout, etc.
- Monitor financial performance of projects…costs, contribution margin, etc.
Skills:
- Computer Skills – Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.…
- Basic Skills in AutoCAD
- Multitasking - Ability to successfully manage multiple complex tasks and projects simultaneously
- Problem solving – ability to manage and resolve complex and multi-dimensional issues
- Interpersonal skills – be able to communicate and interact with all levels within the organization, as well as customers, vendors, civic leaders, government agencies
- Communications skills – Ability to communicate clearly and precisely both verbal and written
- Must be self-motivated and have ability to work without constant supervision
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline
- PE License Preferred
- Engineering / Project Management skills – 3-5 yrs experience
- Experienced with technical writing
- Experience in the drinking water, industrial coating and/or water storage tank industry preferred.
- Experience with Industrial Coatings, SSPC and AWWA standards preferred
Required Activities:
- Constantly using near vision to view a computer screen for extended periods of time.
- Constantly typing and using a computer mouse
- Constantly sitting for extended periods of time at desk, in meetings, or in transit
- Frequently talking and hearing on a phone
- Majority of work performed in a climate-controlled office environment, traveling in automobile or by air. Requires extended periods sitting, typing/working on computer, talking on phone, etc. Some exposure to environmental and industrial elements during site visits - walking, standing and light lifting required.
