Converting Department Supervisor
Company: Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our family-owned mill produces more than 70,000 tons of paperboard annually. Position: The Converting Department Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision, direction, and leadership in safety, quality, and productivity.
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
- Lead and supervise employees in the daily production of high-quality converted paperboard, ensuring efficient operations and safety compliance.
- Motivate and guide employees by setting an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.
- Communicate operational information effectively at all levels, including crew members, supervisors, plant management, office personnel, and external customers and vendors.
- Promote and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and organizational programs.
- Manage department supplies such as adhesives, knives, and lubricants.
- Operate and maintain all converting department machinery, including Pasters, Mill Trimmers, Rotary Slitters, Round Corner Cutters, and Liners.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe operation and proper work habits for all equipment, with a focus on blade changing procedures.
- Oversee the proper setup and operation of all department machinery
- Conduct timely maintenance, including inspection, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement.
- Demonstrate efficient and safe work practices, especially for temporary workforce.
- Lead weekly Safety Tailgate Meetings.
- Review production requirements and schedule personnel to achieve maximum quality production.
- Establish performance metrics and evaluation reports for personnel.
- Monitor all work areas and maintain detailed records of disciplinary actions.
- Manage workload to maximize quality yield and efficiency.
Quality Control:
- Inspect incoming paperboard for size, caliper, color, finish, and moisture. Address any issues with sales/production.
- Inspect and evaluate adhesives, both purchased and in-house cooked, for viscosity and solids level.
- Strategize and troubleshoot problem board situations and modify adhesives as needed.
- Conduct final inspections of completed products to ensure quality standards.
Maintenance:
- Maintain rolling stock and ensure correct battery electrolyte levels.
- Repair department machinery with the assistance of the Maintenance Department and outside support.
- Maintain inventory of required spares and adhesive components.
- Keep work areas neat and organized, including periodic shutdowns for full department cleaning.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.99 - $29.35 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
